"Volunteers
line up to get involved" The recruitment of volunteers is a problem for many non-profit organisations. A new book, Count Me In! 501 Ideas on Recruiting Volunteers, has been written by a Perth woman to give such organisations practical and effective ideas on how to get people involved in non-paid positions. Judy Esmond came up with the idea for the book because there were so many non-profit organisations in Australia. "There are about 50,000 of these organisations in Australia and they are always looking at how to recruit volunteers," she said. "I came up with a few ideas they may not have thought of from a marketing and business point of view." Dr Esmond, who is a social worker, produced the book after two years of research. The book has been sponsored by the Fire & Emergency Services Authority of WA. The
authority has 26,000 volunteers who work for the Bush Fire Service,
State Emergency Service, Fire & Rescue Service and Emergency
Services Cadet Corps.
